Backs:
Barry Fallon: A half-back who can push down the ground and be very effective, wanting to the win the ball in every type of contest. One of the main gears in the Bears line-up. Had a great season by constantly working hard, culminating in international selection and was definitely in the running for Best and Fairest. A
Ian Mitchell: Another player who is valuable all over the ground, especially for the hard-ball. His partnership with David Gillott in the backline was something to be admired whilst watching. Always motivating his team-mates and always giving great input when needed. A-
David Gillott: Umpires ignore those who play at the back when giving the votes but how can you ignore David Gillott? In at every contest, running hard and cleaning up to get the Bears forward. Despite his lack of height, can also do a great job in the ruck due to his astounding leap. A key player for the Bears and was right to be joint Best and Fairest in 2009. A
Eoin O'Luasaigh: Only played a couple of games this year but was an influence. His performance against the Rams in the two teams first encounter was sensational. Would certainly have got a higher grade if he had played more. C
Kristian Jones: The big man's season was dogged by injury to his shoulder and later on his finger. Always picking up his players and getting them going, a valuable commodity to the Bears line-up. Should definitely look at a coaching role next season if his injuries continue to plague him. C+
Jac Quinn: Played one game, the Preliminary Final against Liverpool and grabbed a couple of goals when up forward. Hopefully we'll see more of him next season. C-
Midfield:
Chris Kimmet: Kimmet was a huge force in the Bears' season, always running out from midfield to slot in goals. He deserved finishing the season as joint B&F after huge games, including one memorable one where he scored 12 goals. Is a shame to see him go back to Aus, but hopefully he'll keep in touch and we'll see him back for next season's GF.. A
Adam Baker: A true Bear through and through. Quiet off the ground but everywhere when on it. Never stopped trying, even through injury and is one component that defines the heart of a great football team. His grand final performance was a definition of this and is a player to be watched in 2010. B+
Mark Barrow: Played one game, in the Ruck against Huddersfield. Worked hard but needs to make sure he is watching the whole game at all times. C-
Scott Alford: The Best and Fairest on Grand Final day and rightly so. Led the charge from the beginning and did everything to try and bring the premiership back to Birmingham. The second Aussie to play for the Bears, is a definite must to play on in 2010. B+
Tim Smith: One of the reasons the Bears had the best midfield in 2009. Always going in for the hard-ball, running for the space and keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Tim is a player the Bears do not want to lose as he is invaluable to the charge in 2010. A future Best and Fairest winner. A-
Forwards:
Mat Mitchell: The grizzly Bear himself, did everything he could to make the Bears a force in 2009 and never gave up. Was very unlucky to go out injured in the Grand Final after having a great game. Quiet on the training ground but everywhere on the footy field. Started up at full forward but worked to up his fitness and become a valuable commodity in the midfield. Linked up well with Tim Smith and Chris Kimmet. Captain, Coach, Founder and all round man are words to describe Matty Mitchell. A
David Marriott: Chipped in with a couple of goals this year, including a superb snap against the Rams and nabbing the winner against Liverpool. Needs to up his fitness and ability in the contest but showed great determination in being there every single week and having a crack at it. C+
